Description

Scarce original vintage cappello romano or saturno hat, early-to-mid 20th century, black wool or beaver felt, the characteristic wide circular brim edged in grosgrain, the domed crown with grosgrain band, the interior with leather sweat band and gilt-printed label indicating ecclesiastical origin, the interior circumference approx. 24" to 24-1/4" (approx. equivalent to U.S. men's size 7-5/8 to 7-3/4). A bit of subtle deformation to brim (which could easily be steamed back into shape), otherwise very fine, attractive, beautifully preserved condition, with no stains, losses, or evident damage.
A seldom-seen and attractive vintage example of this distinctive headgear, the traditional "street" hat of Catholic clergy, typically worn with a cassock from the 17th century to circa 1970.

eBay holds every buyer's payment for two business days before releasing it to the seller.
This means that if you pay late on a Thursday night, your payment will not clear until at least Tuesday. If you pay on a Monday morning, your payment will not clear until at least Wednesday. Again, please take this into account.
